Suicide Survivor and Prevention Resources
01
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (ASFP)
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, or ASFP, is a wonderful comprehensive resource. They offer support groups, host walks, discuss the latest research and provide a lot of helpful information for those affected by suicide loss and those fighting to prevent it.
02
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Though not a suicide specific resource, NAMI offers assistance and information with all forms of mental health.
NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.
03
National Institute of Mental Health (NIH)
National Institute of Mental Health (NIH) Seeks to transform the understanding and treatment of mental illness. Again not a suicide specific organization, but they offer a lot of great information about risk factors, research and suicide prevention
Suicide Loss Survivor Information and Peer Support
According to the Center for Disease control and Prevention (CDC), 49, 449 people lost their lives to suicide in 2022, making it the 11th leading cause of death in the US. That's an average of 132 deaths by suicide each day! And unfortunately the number of suicide attempts is even higher: In 2021, the CDC reported an estimated 12.3 million American adults seriously thought about suicide, 3.5 million planned a suicide attempt, and 1.7 million attempted suicide. 1.7 MILLION! Though each situation is unique, and each loss an unspeakable tragedy, clearly, you are not alone.

I would encourage you to seek support through organizations such as the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention and that National Alliance on Mental Illness in your state. In my experience, having peer support and participating in the programs these organizations offer can be life changing /saving.

I am currently co-facilitating an in person peer support group in Lebanon, NH and will be offering future zoom groups and discussions focused on specific aspects of grief and coping after suicide. Please contact me for more information.

You are not alone!
